~ Cantores steal back the trophy! ~

Lent 2011 014(web)Lent 2011 016(web) I am reliably informed that this year was the latest that Easter can ever be and it will not be as late for another 153 years!  Cold comfort perhaps for the choristers who had to return from their Easter holidays for rehearsals to prepare for the services for Holy Week and Easter.  The beautiful spring weather, however, did give a sort of silver lining. So after the rehearsals the boys were able to spend plenty of time outside gearing themselves up for the annual Cantores verses Decani Football match.  This was won the previous year by Cantores.  However, Decani showed every determination to exact revenge.

When the day finally came for the match, there was a feeling of great anticipation.  After rehearsals, everyone eagerly moved to the Sports Hall.  A series of warm-up matches began before finally – the match!  At half-time there was little between the two teams – 0-0.  But after the break Adam Beeston opened up the scoring for Decani.  This quickly became a double – Decani were 2-0 ahead.  Cantores were not to be out-played but this time Decani weren’t going to give them a chance.  Finally, William Taylor made his contribution giving Decani an unassailable 3-0 lead and the trophy!  Fr Alexander presented the trophy to the winning captain Sam Lubkowski and vice captain Seamus Gorman.  Cantores were worthy winners – until next year…
