On Friday, 12th November the Abbey Choir formally launched its new CD at a Champagne Reception and Recital in the Cloisters of St Benedict‚Äôs School, Ealing.¬† The CD, which is called Personent Hodie, features a selection of Advent and Christmas music.¬† The proceeds from the recording will support the charity Aid to the Church in Need.¬†After a few glasses of champagne, the Choir performed a few pieces from the CD.¬† We were delighted to welcome the National Director of Aid to the Church in Need, Mr Neville Kyrke-Smith, who thanked the Choir for their hard work and support through the recording.¬† He said the CD was very popular and had already achieved significant sales.¬† Mr Kyrke-Smith reminded us of the important work Aid to the Church in Need does to support persecuted Christians throughout the world.¬†Afterwards, the Abbot congratulated the Choir on its recent achievement.¬† Chris Eastwood, Director of the Abbey Choir, thanked the many people who had supported the Choir in its latest recording including Matthew Martin, Assistant Master of Music at Westminster Cathedral, who produced the recording and the recording company Herald.¬† He also thanked the Friends and Parents of the Abbey Choir, whose continuing support was invaluable to the Choir.¬† ‚ÄúThis recording‚ÄĚ, he concluded, ‚Äúrepresents a major achievement for the Choir and a benchmark for its continued development‚ÄĚ.¬† Chris Eastwood and Sam Lubkowski, Head Chorister, then presented Mr Kyrke-Smith with a cheque of ¬£3,750 raised from the recording to support the work of Aid to the Church in Need.

At the end of the evening, there was an opportunity to buy the CD for the first time.  Nearly 200 CDs were sold, which on top of the huge sales through Aid to the Church in Need, bodes well for the success of the recording.  Recent reviews for the CD also have highlighted the quality of the recording.
