~ New Abbey Choir CD released this Christmas! ~

CD RecordingCD Recoding 2recording After months of hard work and 3 long nights of recording in the abbey church, the choir’s long awaited Christmas CD has now been produced and will soon be available for purchase.

The recording represents a tremendous milestone for the Choir, which last produced a CD in 1997.  We used the same recording label then to make a CD of sacred choral music by Anton Bruckner.  That recording was highly successful and received many favourable reviews.  It bodes well that the latest Christmas CD is produced with the same recording company – Herald.  They have made many recordings with highly respected and renowned musical artists including David Hill (Chief Conductor of the BBC Singers), the late Mary Berry (founder of the Schola Gregoriana) and numerous Cathedral choirs throughout the country.  It is a testimony to the development of the Abbey Choir in recent years, therefore, that we were able to approach Herald to make this latest recording.

Of no less importance is the fact that the proceeds of this recording will help support the valuable work of the Catholic charity Aid to the Church in Need.  As no doubt many will remember from our fundraising Italian Evening last Spring, this charity has worked for over 60 years to help persecuted Christians throughout the world.  We are fortunate to have the National UK Director of Aid to the Church in Need, Mr. Neville Kyrke-Smith, joining us for the launch of the CD at the Champagne reception and recital on Friday, 12th November in The Cloisters at 7.30pm.  This is a definite ‘must’ for your diaries as it promises to be a very rewarding and enjoyable evening.  All those who have been involved in this wonderful project deserve our support and congratulations.
