~ New Choristers for 2011-12 ~

New Choristers 001(web)New Choristers 006(web) The new Choir year began on Sunday, 11th September with the induction of four new choristers into the choir at mass in the Abbey.

After a year of preparation as probationers, Jack Edis, Joseph McDonald, Rory Beeston and Harry Lubkowski received their surplices for the first time.  The Mass was celebrated by the Abbot in the Abbey with parents and friends of the Choir alongside the parishioners of the Abbey.  It was a beautiful Mass with two pieces of music by French composers – O quam amabilis by Pierre Vilette and Ubi Caritas by Maurice Duruflé.  At the end of Mass the Abbot formally admitted Jack, Joseph, Rory and Harry into the Choir.  They were helped by some of the senior choristers to put on their new surplices.

After Mass parents and friends of the Choir met for a celebration in the Choir Hall.  The Director of Music, Mr. Eastwood, presented the new choristers with their new choir tie and jumper.  After a warm round of applause everyone tucked into some chocolate brownies and drinks.  There was an American feel to the food with American flags on the brownies and Stars and Stripes plates.  It added to a sense of excitement for what lay ahead.

It’s a wonderful time to join the Choir at present: a growing choir and a choir going places!  What this space…
