~ Prestiguous Scholarship awarded to Abbey Chorister! ~

Binath(web) Binath Philoman, who is a chorister of Ealing Abbey Choir, has won a place at the prestigious Christ Church Cathedral School in Oxford, one of the country’s leading church choir schools.

Binath was offered a place as a chorister in the Ealing Abbey Choir in September 2010, and has trained and performed with the choir since then. His move to Christ Church not only recognises his special talent, but also his development as a chorister at Ealing Abbey. Choristers undertake musical instruction at St Benedict’s School, not only for their singing, but are expected to play an instrument as well.

Director of Music for Ealing Abbey Choir, Mr Christopher Eastwood is delighted with Binath’s achievement. “We are thrilled for Binath and his family that he has been selected from so many applicants for a place at Christ Church, and while we are sad to be saying farewell to such a talented chorister, we know that he will be a key part of the Christ Church Choir and look forward to hearing more about his achievements in years to come. I have no doubt that Binath and his family, who have been so supportive of the Ealing Abbey Choir, will keep in touch through the Friends of Ealing Abbey Choir.”

The Ealing Abbey Choir has been a part of Ealing Abbey since 1910. Whilst providing an important and beautiful musical tradition to the choral masses at Ealing Abbey, the Choir is celebrated further afield. Recent tours to the United States of America in October 2011 and Strasbourg in April of 2010 were a critical and promotional success. In March this year, Ealing Abbey Choir were commissioned to record a commercial, the proceeds from which the Choir plan to make a CD recording of Membra Jesu nostri by Buxtehude under the Herald label in the summer.
